A Link & Co. (Est. 1904) was started by Adolph Link, the son of a Viennese goldsmith, who came to New York as the 19th century gave way to the 20th. He grew up on New York's lower east side where he met Anna, the youngest daughter of a rabbi. He fell in love with her and they married in 1912.
During their marriage, Adolph apprenticed as a platinum jeweler with Cartier, Harry Winston, and Van Cleef & Arpels. During this time, Adolph purchased raw gold and platinum and fabricated his designs alongside Fifth Avenue's iconic craftsmen.
He formed his own company, A Link in 1904. According to the firm’s official website, “His creations [were] a combination of Viennese artistry and designs influenced by his assimilation into the heart of his adopted country … Working with diamonds and platinum, he created necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings showing the inherent beauty of [the] earth’s most precious of minerals, using as little metal as possible. Believing less is more.”
In the early 1940's, Adolph’s two sons, Seymour and Marvin, joined their father in the business. Seymour became a jeweler and Marvin apprenticed in Antwerp, Belgium as a diamond cutter. It is from these two trades that A. Link garnered its reputation as a dealer in the finest made diamonds and as a manufacturer of traditional diamond jewelry.
Having championed diamonds manufactured to uniform standards during times when this was not in vogue, A. link consistently sold diamonds of the same quality for well over a century. These stones are referred to as "60/60’s;” a term that refers to the table and depth percentages combined with good and/or excellent symmetry and polishing. These stones are among the most beautifully made diamonds in the world. They radiate maximum glitter and gleam.
Today only responsibly sourced diamonds are found in A Link’s jewelry. Regardless of color or clarity, each stone is fabricated to the same exacting specifications. A. Link’s designs reflect the tastes of America’s leading jewelers.
Closely associated with the iconic De Beers organization. It was the first to nationally brand the Opera Necklace. This necklace is a 34 inch strand of diamonds detachable into two cascading necklaces, so it may be worn four different ways. A. Link also offers classic diamond jewelry items such as hoop and stud earrings, lines of bracelets that include fashion bracelets as well as necklaces and diamond bands.
The house’s collections are named Designer, Extraordinary, Forever Mark, Heritage, Lattice, Metropolitan, Opera, and Rings.
Today, the New York company remains family-owned and operated by Jeffrey Link and Douglas Sills. In 2019, A. Link celebrated its 115th anniversary and continues as a master in the diamond jewelry world.
