Barry Kieselstein-Cord


Barry Kieselstein-Cord (1943 – ) A New York City native, Kieselstein-Cord is said to have been introduced to jewelry design when he took a jewelry class with a girlfriend. He studied at the prestigious Parsons School of Design, New York University, and the American Craft Institute.

He began work in advertising and won several awards for it including the Illustrators Society Award, the International Hollywood Radio & Television Society Award, and multiple Art Directors Club of New York Awards. In 1972 he founded his company, Kieselstein-Cord.

The company sells jewelry, belts, handbags, gloves, home furnishings and accessories. In 1973, George Jensen was the first to introduce Kieselstein-Cord’s sterling silver jewelry and belt buckles with mythological, equestrian, and animal themes.

In 1976, Barry introduced status belt buckles which propelled his career. He opened in-store boutiques at Bergdorf Goodman, New York, 1985, Neiman Marcus, Beverly Hills, 1990, and Mitsukishi, Tokyo. In the late 70’s, he introduced gold and precious and semi-precious stones into his designs.

In the 90’s, he opened shops in Italy, Germany, and Switzerland and introduced black gold jewelry. Among the many awards he’s received is the Coty Award (twice). He has also received a Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) award. His design collections have had exhibitions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and Louisiana State Museum.

He’s designed for many celebrities including Mick Jagger, Cat Stevens, and Diane Keaton.
