Frederic Duclos

Frederic Duclos (Est. 1984) Frederic Duclos was born in Southeastern France and raised by a family that for several generations designed accessories. Duclos’ upbringing instilled an admiration for art and sculpture.

In his mind, sculpture was limitless, but controlling size and balance to create individual jewelry pieces became his passion. According to his official website, “The influence of rolling hillsides with a river running through it and the vast pre-Alps in the distance provided a perfect backdrop for inspiration to start flowing. Walks beside his mom on the Rue d’ Antibe in Cannes [in] the picturesque French Riviera further stirred the inner voice of the designer.”

After completing studies in Paris, Duclos was immediately drawn into the allure of jewelry design. His last year of college brought him to California, where he was introduced to his future wife, Karen, by a mutual friend.

At eighteen, Karen was a junior at the University of California and had started a wholesale jewelry and accessories business. She soon discovered a niche designing sterling jewelry.

After meeting Frederic, they decided that there was market demand for high quality, creative sterling jewelry. In their early years together, they produced creations for the fashion market and for private label, elite designers who sought impeccable quality. In fact, Frederic and Karen became authorities on their chosen manufacturing methods and were featured authors in the book, “Jewelry and Metalwork Survey Edition 2.”

As time went on, Frederic expanded his collections into ornaments and objects d’art and became recognized as a collectible artist in his specialized fields. In the mid-1990’s, Frederic found a niche in independent jewelry stores that have evolved into his primary retail partners for more than two decades.

The numerous awards Duclos received throughout the years encouraged him to create fresh, new concepts. He was also inspired by the letters and emails from store clients who expressed appreciation for Frederic’s talents and described how these impacted their respective businesses.

For nearly thirty-five years, Frederic has introduced collections that reflect sensuality and femininity with a touch of reality. The numerous awards he has received throughout the years continue to encourage him to create fresh, new concepts.

Frederic Duclos received his first design award during the inauguration of the first fashion jewelry design contest sponsored by the now defunct ACCENT Magazine. This magazine focused on accessories in the fashion industry. He placed first for sterling silver design.

In February 1998, he received his second award for outstanding fashion sterling design again from ACCENT Magazine.

In 2012, Frederic entered the JCK Jeweler’s Choice Awards and won two awards in the pearl and fashion categories. The year 2013 brought another two awards in sterling and fashion and began an uninterrupted streak of first place awards in the sterling and fashion categories that ran through 2015.

In 2017 Frederic regained first and second place in the sterling silver categories.

Frederic Duclos goes to great lengths to insure that all pieces adhere to the strict standards set by the Federal Trade Commission. The gems used in each piece of jewelry are carefully chosen and reflect Frederic’s attention to detail. His contemporary designs showcase his artistry as a precious metal designer. His Innovative designs and benchmark quality are crafted in his European studios and all his designs are Rhodium finished and can be worn every day.

Using luscious pearls, natural stones, exotic materials, and hand textures, Duclos offers wearable art pieces with value. One especially notable design is the Duclos Knot, a piece that can be worn as a pin or pendant.

This sterling silver knot has a gold wash over parts of the bow. It’s marked on the back with both the artist’s name and hand-etched signature. It also says, 925 ON WAX, which is an old wax technique that gives the pin/pendant its full puffy look. The piece measures 2 inches across by 1 1/2 inches high when worn as a pin. When worn as a pendant, the piece will hang vertically with the knot on the right side. It weighs 11.7 grams and has a secure ~C~ clasp closure.

Frederic Duclos’ collections include Silver Extraordinaire, Silver and Rose Extraordinaire, Silver and Gold Extraordinaire, and Gem Extraordinaire. Each collection is comprised of bracelets, earrings, necklaces, pendants, and more.

On the brand’s website. Frederic writes, “As I design a piece of jewelry, I envision a woman wearing it. Her face, silhouette, and personality reflect the statement I am trying to achieve. My goal is to capture the fundamental qualities of a woman’s features, and complement them with refined embellishments. The best tribute I receive is when I meet a woman who is wearing one of my creations.”
