Pierre Cartier was a French jeweler and the son of Alfred Cartier. In 1909, Pierre opened and managed the family’s new store in New York City. When both of his brothers died in 1942, Pierre moved back to manage the Paris shop until retiring in 1947. **At a critical moment in his career, Pierre Cartier bought the Hope Diamond; the world’s most famous jewel that helped open many design doors for how to incorporate diamonds throughout jewelry. He sold the diamond in 1911 to Edward B. McLean for $180,000 U.S dollars.
