Arunashi

Arunashi (Est. 2004- ) The Arunashi Collection, which was first introduced in 2004, derives its name from a combination of the first names Jaipur, India born designer Arun Bohra and his wife, Ashita.

Arun was born into his family’s jewelry business, Jewels Emporium that began in 1841. He is the 8th generation of jewelers and craftsmen who have designed pieces for India’s royal families.

The Arunashi Collection is sophisticated, opulent jewelry manufactured with old world craftsmanship and contemporary style. It pushes fashion forward by blending innovation, design, and artistry into jewelry that highlights its colored gemstones and diamonds. Arun draws on the heritage of both his family and his culture creating a signature line of 22K gold and gemstone jewelry.

As he describes it, “being in the jewelry business is as natural to me as breathing.”

Arun began his professional career as a gemstone dealer who enjoyed the challenge of finding rare, beautiful stones. After several years, his desire to tap into his creative side brought him to the Gemological Institute of America (GIA.) There he studied Jewelry Design and Manufacturing and completed the program as a Graduate Jeweler.

In 2004, Arun and Ashita combined their names, talents and experience to create their own line of jewelry. Handcrafted in the family’s Jaipur studio, the designs are created with attention to detail and comprised of luxurious gold, brilliantly hued gemstones that, more recently, include oxidized white gold.

The brand’s inspiration comes from diverse sources that includes Mogul-era jewelry making traditions and age-old Indian techniques of creating elaborate, painterly interpretations of nature from the Art Nouveau period. The Arunashi Collection fuses opulence, sophistication and the finest technological achievement of old-world craftsmanship with a contemporary sense of style that results in jewelry that is beautiful, wearable, and distinctive.

Notable pieces include sapphire earrings with a mix of faceted gems and free form cabochons in shades of blues and purples detailed by ribbons of diamonds. Another is a 33 carat vivid green, tsavorite garnet set with white sapphires, demantoid garnets, complemented by diamonds and opals in titanium. The earrings boast a stunning centerpiece of a rose-cut diamond and titanium station chain accented with mother-of-pearl, diamonds and a floating demantoid garnet.

Arunashi also utilizes blackened gold which accents the gemstones and makes them “pop” with brilliant color. A representative example is the “Wild Orchids” ring made of fire opal, sapphire, and diamonds in blackened 18k gold with matching earrings.

Other earring creations include the multi-colored gemstone “garden earrings” that feature water opals, sapphires, tsavorite garnets and diamonds set in titanium and purple sapphire with diamonds set in 18k black gold

Outstanding Arunashi rings include a rubellite tourmaline dazzler in 18k black gold with diamonds. This ring has a beautiful shank that resembles interwoven branches. The blue moonstone glows from within and is accented by diamonds and sapphires set in titanium.

Admirers say that there is something almost ‘other worldly’ about Arunashi’s jewelry. The smoothly polished and glowing orbs of the cabochon gemstones interspersed with the sparkle of traditionally cut round brilliant diamonds and other colored gems plus extensive use of titanium make Arunashi’s jewels unique. The moonstone ring and the cultured pearl, sapphire, emerald, and diamond earrings are textbook examples of Arunashi’s work.

Magnificent bangle bracelets encrusted with blue and green sapphires and diamonds or pink and blue sapphires with diamonds also epitomize the Arunashi Collection. The use of blackened gold enhances the gemstones in the bangles. The combination of colored gemstones along with different cuts and the asymmetrical shapes in the opal cabochons accented with diamonds and sapphires make these statement pieces truly exceptional.

The Arunashi Collection was first launched at Bergdorf Goodman in New York and was then followed by Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus in the US, then at Harvey Nichols in the UK. The collection can also be found in exclusive jewelry boutiques around the world.

Arunashi has received prestigious awards for their one-of-a-kind art jewels, including the Couture, Town & Country Couture, and the AGTA Spectrum Awards.

In 2017, Jewelers of America (JA), the national trade association for businesses serving the fine jewelry marketplace, announced Arun Bohra as one of the GEM Award nominees in the categories of Jewelry Design, Marketing & Communications, Media Excellence, and Watch Excellence. The GEM Awards honor individuals and brands whose work raises the visibility and status of fine jewelry and watches.

Arunashi high jewelry inspires critics to acclaim it as works of walking art. Weaving together tradition and innovation, sensuality and geometry, drama and subtlety the creations are almost all statement pieces. Whether it is the Technicolor, sapphire earrings, the branch earrings dripping with diamonds, or the glimmering jelly opal pendants with sapphire “sari” drape, Arunashi brings fresh voice to an antique craft and adds new dimension to luxury.
