Krishniah Chetty & Sons: (Est. 1869) In anticipation of celebrating its 150th year of operation, the C. Krishniah Chetty Group of Jewellers, a jewelry brand based in Bangalore, India identified the six entities that comprise the group as: C. Krishniah Chetty & Sons, C. Krishniah Chetty Jewellers, C. Krishniah Chetty Manufacturers, C. Krishniah Chetty Foundation, C. Krishniah Chetty Partnership Firm, and the C. Krishniah Chetty Charitable Trust.
Krishniah Chetty & Sons is a leading name in the finest of the world’s Heritage jewelry houses and over its history has launched many collections of desirable pieces. The group was founded in 1869 and is now operated by the fifth and sixth generations of the C. Krishniah Chetty Family.
Founded by Cotha Krishniah Chetty, the company began by selling colored beads to the British Army. The company is especially notable for being the preferred jewelers to over 21 royal Indian houses including the Maharaja of Mysore, the Nizam of Hyderabad, the Maharaja of Travancore, the Nawab of Savanur, the Maharaja of Sandur, and the Maharaja of Dhrangadra. They were also the preferred jeweler to many other royal families of south and central India, as well as the British. Today, the firm is a preferred partner to leaders in the fashion and fine jewelry markets.

In the 1800s after Cotha Krishniah Chetty started selling Armenian colored beads to the British in the Bangalore Cantonment, the company was soon appointed as distributor for Rolex of Switzerland, and also sold imported products from Mappin & Webb, and The Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company of London.
“Rolex made diamond-encrusted dials with the name C Krishniah Chetty & Sons on top. Not many companies in the world can claim that honor,” says C Vinod Hayagriv, a fifth generation family member who joined the company in 1981. His two gemologist sons have also joined the business.
Some of the famous articles crafted by C. Krishniah Chetty & Sons include life size carriages for princes, silver temple doors, inaugural keys and even a gold cricket bat. The company remains an innovator in India’s jewelry industry and was the first to bring the famed Tolkowsky brand, famous for the Ideal Cut, to India. Krishniah Chetty also pioneered the launch of fancy colored diamonds in India, was the first to launch DeBeers’ Forevermark brand in India, and also the first store with the largest diamond-only showroom in Asia.
In November, 2017, Forevermark, the diamond brand from the De Beers Group of Companies, celebrated its association with C. Krishniah Chetty Jewellers with their first boutique store that exclusively carried Forevermark diamonds and jewelry.

At the location, Forevermark created a black room enclosure where a genuine, natural and untreated 3 carat Forevermark diamond is on display. The display demonstrates how light passes through this spectacular diamond to showcase its brilliance. The beauty of a Forevermark diamond goes beyond the 4Cs and visitors to the store can see how light refracts through the diamond across a room in a multitude of colors. Other notable collection launches by C. Krishniah Chetty & Sons include the December 2013 introduction of a collection of hand painted jewelry for its Spring/Summer collection displaying floral motifs. These were achieved by incorporating colors and forms from nature into designs that are intricate, young, and vibrant.
Also in the December 2013 launch were the season’s Platinum Love Bands – Endless Love. The design concepts adopted for these were ‘Infinity Symbols’, ‘Endless Love Knots’ and ‘Duo Bands’ with themes based on a design book devoted to ‘Luxury Archeology.’ It marked a new design direction because it took ancient materials and applied them to modern themes. The pieces include minimal expressions of mythological or ancient icons of eternal love on contemporary platinum pieces.
In February 2016, the firm launched a specially designed range of pendants for Valentine’s Day. The Red Haute Valentine’s Day Collection is a sparkling collection of 18kt yellow gold and diamond pendants that come with the option of selecting two initials and attaching both to the pendant. There are two designs of pendants from which customers can choose.
