Abraham Paz (???? – ????) Silversmith and designer for Frederick Davis and retailer, Sanborns. Well known for carved obsidian mask and shield designs made for Davis in the early 20th century. Paz also started his own lines recognized for their unique modern designs and sculptural stones.
Fred Davis bought from a few master silversmiths in Mexico City and often marked them with his mark “FD”. Abraham Paz was one of those silversmiths. It is rare to find a set with the Paz mark (“AP”). Mexican silver experts state that not every piece signed “FD” were Davis’ original designs. Some were purchased from master silversmiths like Abraham Paz.
