Bernice Goodspeed (???? – 1971) Born in the United States, she moved to Mexico City in 1930 to complete her studies of pre- Columbian archeology. While working as a tour guide to ancient Mexican sites she met the Hungarian artist, Carl Pappe whine she married in 1935.
They moved to Taxco and opened a studio and gallery that sold pre-Columbian artifacts and Pappe’s paintings and prints. They soon began selling Sterling Silver jewelry and ornaments that Goodspeed designed and created. Bernice’s designs employ pre-Columbian motifs. Some of her jewelry incorporates Aztec and Mayan stonework.
Bernice also wrote many books about Mexican civilization illustrated with Carl Pappe’s artwork.
