Enrique Ledesma

Enrique Ledesma (???? – 1979) Born in Mexico City, Ledesma was a second generation silversmith having apprenticed in his father’s silversmith shop. He studied sculpture and painting at the San Carlos Academy of Art in Mexico City, the same art school that Diego Rivera, Matilde Poulat and Ricardo Salas attended.

He moved to Taxco where he worked for William Spratling, Hector Aguilar and Los Castillo. Around 1950, he opened his own shop, Plateria Ledesma.

He is known for incorporating silver shapes into stone, usually obsidian, and polishing them together. Choosing stones for their beauty, his designs express form, color, pattern and line. The pieces he created are very sculptural and he extensively incorporated native, Mexican stones into them.
