Wilson Tsosie

Wilson Tsosie (pre-1940 – ????) is a Navajo artisan, based in Arizona who has been creating designs since the 1940s, He is best known for his traditional heavy construction stamp and file-work in the ranger buckles, rings, pendants, necklaces, and brooches (some with scenic designs) he creates. Much of his work utilizes silver with gold accents. He is cited as a noted maker in Bill Hougharts’ book, “Southwestern Silver.”

Examples of his work include a classic Arizona pendant. A simple bail finishes is part of the pendant and lets the wearer combine it with a sterling silver rope chain or strip of leather.

Tsosie’s ring work includes a beautiful turquoise stone ring. To create it, he took a piece of uniquely cut Pilot Mountain rock and surrounded it with antique styled silver wire. A simple, comfortable splint ring shank finishes piece.

One of his necklaces is made of thick silver weighing 127 grams. Each petal on it is studded with turquoise nuggets. The stones are natural. Necklaces made in this style are difficult to find today.

Wilson Tsosie has been making traditional silver and stone pieces for decades. His creations are fine examples of wearable art.

His work is signed ‘WT’ for Wilson Tsosie.
