Kate Hubley, the designer and goldsmith behind K8 Jewelry holds the prestigious FGA gemology designation from the Gemmological Association of Great Britain. Originally an advertising professional, Kate began taking courses in design and jewelry gold smithing. Consequently, Kate came to metalsmithing by way of art. As an artist, she prefers to work in concepts. Every piece of her jewelry has a meaning beyond the obvious. Collectors love this aspect of her work.

Kate creates jewelry using concepts combined with a twist of light hearted whimsy. Collection names include Precious Time, Lumina, Carnival, and others. The designs are versatile and offer styles for a range of interests and demographics.

One notable example of Kate’s work derives from a friend’s drawing of medieval torture weapons. Kate developed the concept into one of her most meaningful collections. Pieces in this collection and others include stacking rings, pendants, and signature earrings.

Kate studied at the École de joaillerie de Montréal in the field of Metal and Jewelry Arts. She started at the École de joaillerie with the foundation program in the 1990s and has returned periodically for master classes in areas such as stone-setting, CAD, wax carving, metallurgy, and gold application as well as others.

As a gemologist, Kate seeks out gemstones that are ethically sourced. K8 Jewelry is handcrafted by Kate and her team of master jewelers who come from a long line of Damascus metalsmiths dating back hundreds of years. Kate is also an award-winning writer in Montréal's advertising world and uses her industry knowledge to build relations with retailers.

Kate is attracted to the allure of black. In fact, it's all she wears. She considers black the perfect backdrop for her vivid, colorful jewelry.
