Lois Etherington Betteridge is a Canadian silversmith, goldsmith, designer and teacher. She has been a major influence in the Canadian studio craft movement since its beginning in the 1950s. In 1978, l Betteridge became the second beneficiary of the Saidye Bronfman Award, the most well-known award in Canada for fine art. In 1997, she was admitted as a member of the Order of Canada, a civilian honor based on her community service. Then in 2010, she received the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Society of North American Goldsmiths. Over a sixty-year career, Betteridge has mentored many of Canada’s metal artists, smiths and jewelers.
