Øystein Balle (1928? – 1998?) Norwegian modernist jewelry designer whose home was in the town Stavanger. Most of Balle’s creations, i.e. bracelets, pins, earrings, brooches, and even dining utensils use sterling silver and employ striking, multi-colored .often abstract enamel work.
After seeing pieces that often incorporate colored enamels in cobalt and sky blues, emerald green, banana yellow and bright white, Balle’s pieces are almost instantly recognizable. The vitreous enamel is bright and vibrantly colored with a glasslike finish. The most famous of Øystein Balle’s pieces were made in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
