Willy Winnaess

Willy Winnaess (Norway) (???? – ????) Willy Winnaess worked for David-Andersen, the famed Norwegian Jeweler, during the 1950s and 1960s. The company’s pieces were the work of many famous designers and it represents the finest in Scandinavian silver. Their offerings include exquisite enamel jewelry and tableware accessories in silver and gold. The enameling is in many colors and applied over sterling.

Other designers who produced items for David-Andersen include Bjorn Sgurd Oster, Synnove Korssjoen and Konrad Mehus. Willy Winnaess specialized in brooches, bracelets and pendants. Natural patterns of leaves, insects, flowers, and animals are seen on many of his jewelry pieces.

It is extremely rare to find jewelry hallmarked Willy Winnaess that is not part of David Andersen. Pieces are usually marked ‘D-A NORWAY STERLING 925S with the Willy Winnaess hallmark of a W in a circle as well as the DAVID ANDERSEN scales hallmark.

Pieces of note include a simple pendant with a strong design that measures approximately 2 3/4 inch by 1.5 inch. There is also a white double-leaf bracelet that has remained popular over decades. Another pendant that measures 1 1/2″ long x 1 1/4″ wide is an example of mid-century modernist sterling jewelry designed in Norway.

Also special is a Sterling olive enamel lily pad pin and earring set. The set is in vintage olive green and bright lemon yellow enamel gold with three sterling silver, three dimensional lily-pads and flowers. The pin measures approximately 2″ by 1-7/8″ and weighs 20.4 grams. The secure clasp holding clip on earrings measures approximately 7/8″ by 15/16″ and weigh 10.4 grams. It is a beautiful set that has been called, “vibrant.”

Another outstanding piece is a beautiful sterling silver Planet Pendant with a silver chain that was made in the 60s. The Planer Pendant features the Sun and the Earth. It weighs 18g grams.

One of several pieces with a religious theme is a Cross that measures 4.3 cm x 3.1 cm.
