Jacob & Co Geneve (Est. 1986) is a relative newcomer in the haute jewelry universe. Established less than thirty-five years ago by diamond designer Jacob Arabo, it is also known for a number of signature watch styles, such as the Five Time Zone Watch that made its first appearance in 2002.
Inspired by the jet-set lifestyle of many of its clients that include hip-hop artists, National Basketball Association (NBA) players, and other cutting-edge celebrities, the Five Time Zone Watch features four fixed time zones—New York, LA, Tokyo, and Paris—with the fifth dial set to the location of the wearer.
Other notable watches include the Quenttin, the first-ever watch with a 31-day power reserve, seven mainspring barrels, and a vertical, side-mounted tourbillon (a regulating device in which the timekeeping element of the watch rotates inside a metal cage to negate the effects of gravity on accuracy), and the Ghost Watch, a Swiss made digital watch that features a pentagram shape and can display up to 20 time zones.
The company’s fine jewelry collections offer unique designs in a variety of styles, including a range of engagement rings and wedding bands for both men and women. The company also designs custom wedding rings giving its customers the opportunity to choose diamonds of any shape, size or color.
Jacob & Co states that it uses the "world's finest and most exclusive gems" for its jewelry. These include the pure, colorless Golconda diamonds of India and rare colored stones from Africa and Brazil. The company also claims it purchases diamonds only from countries that are full participants in the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS), an international monitoring system created to stem the flow of conflict diamonds. All diamonds carry Gemological Institute of America (GIA) authenticity reports.
According to the firm’s official website, “Jacob Arabo began his journey in the world of fine jewelry and timepieces as a 16-year old apprentice.”
In 1981, after graduating early from a jewelry design course in New York City, Arabo opened a small booth in New York City's Diamond District where he began designing for jewelry labels and private clients. In 1986, Arabo launched his own luxury label, Jacob & Co.
Since then, he has delivered an ever expanding array of jewelry and watches that continue to enchant clients and critics alike earning him extensive global press coverage and a loyal international following. As a jeweler, Jacob sources singularly rare and exceptional stones with the critical care of an artist’s eye. His inventiveness and inspiration merge with the finest jewelry making techniques to produce iconic and intricately crafted masterpieces.
When Arabo began to design watches in 2002, these timepieces became symbols of success for both bold faced names and serious collectors. As the creative force behind the brand’s ingenious watch collections, Arabo has received a number of design awards and is recognized as the “Master of World Time” earning a place in music fame with more than 200 references in pop culture songs to his “over-the-top” timepieces.
Jacob & Co.’s ingenious timepieces and opulent jewelry watches feature perfectly selected and set stones that are a hallmark of the brand. His timepiece collections include Tourbillon that comprises timepieces with high levels of complication. From single to quadruple tourbillons featuring four time bands, Jacob & Co. offers a variety of timepieces for demanding lovers of fine watches.

Of special interest is the Hematite Collection. Hematite is a magnetic stone celebrated for its immense grounding and healing properties. When worn in jewelry, hematite is believed to cast a reflective aura around the wearer. It is said to protect from negative energies, enhance mental clarity, bolster self-confidence, and purify the mind, body and soul. Set in stainless steel or 18K rose gold with the option of diamond accents, the Hematite collection harnesses the rich and deeply colored stone in elegant bracelets and cuff bangles. These classic designs can be sized to include 17 to 20 bars of Hematite per piece or custom fit to the wrist for any man or woman.
Another collection of special interest is the Nadira. It is inspired by Nadira, a sultry Indian actress of the 1950's who often played a beautiful temptress in her films. Intricate designs in gold are woven with themes drawn from the East. Big and bold, the Nadira collection is at once statement jewelry and intimately detailed and delicate.
The Perfect Fit Collection includes a bracelet that was inspired by the two-century old “brummel” sailing hardware used to secure sails to boats. Once attached, they stayed in place securely whether or not the vessels encountered calm seas or challenging storms. The two 18K gold heads of the bracelets are angled and formed so that they can come together only one precise way and can stay together on marine cord or leather.
Last but far from least is the Talia Collection. Historically meaning “rain from the heavens” Jacob & Co.’s Talia earrings are composed of droplet-like designs, cascading with white diamonds and precious stones. The earrings are lightweight and move along with the wearer to create an otherworldly effect as they fall delicately from the ear. Talia earrings are available in an array of emerald, ruby, white diamond, and sapphire options.
In January 2019, the company announced that it had an official partnership to collaborate with soccer star Lionel Messi on a limited-edition timepiece, the Epic x Chrono Messi watch. Close inspection reveals Messi’s signature on the sapphire glass back.
The Epic x Chrono Messi features a polished, grade 5 titanium case, anti-reflection sapphire glass, white ceramic chronograph bezel and buttons, titanium and blue-rubber horns, and red-rubber crowns. The style’s light blue and white colors are a tribute to Messi’s Argentinean heritage.
As further homage to the player, the timepiece features his famous No. 10 in red on the flange ring, his logo on the dial at six o’clock, and his signature which shows through the automatic bi-compax skeleton chronograph movement.
One hundred and eighty models of the wristwatch are in production with a retail price beginning at $28,000.
The Epic x Chrono Messi watch is the first timepiece commemorating Jacob & Co. and Messi’s partnership. Their exclusive three-year deal promises to release more limited-edition watches in the future.
In 2004 Jacob & Co founder Arabo was featured in the game Def Jam: Fight for NY, in which the players’ hip-hop characters compete to earn cash with which they can buy jewelry from Jacob the Jeweler. The company’s creations are also mentioned in Jay-Z’s single “Girl's Best Friend”, a love song to the rapper’s diamonds, released in 1999.
Jacob & Co has retail locations around the world with three in the United States, including its "mine-inspired" flagship store located in a Park Ave townhouse on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Other notable locations include three boutiques in London, storefronts in the Stardust hotel in Monte-Carlo and the Wynn Las Vegas with shops in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, in Italy (Rome and Cortina d’ampezzo.)
It opened its first Swiss boutique on the ground floor of the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues –and became the first international flagship store for the brand. The location was an easy decision for Arabo: It’s one of his favorite hotels in Geneva and Jacob & Co has been exhibiting at the hotel for years.
The store, not unlike their New York headquarters, boasts elegant interiors with a neutral color palette of beige, as well as zebra wood and sumptuous fabrics. The store houses Jacob & Co.’s Astronomia collection, as well as other exquisite timepieces, as well as high jewelry. This includes the Infinia Collection available in rubies, white diamonds and emeralds.
With a unique talent for creating designs that are as innovative as they are spectacular, the brand has grown into one of the most recognized luxury brands in timepieces and jewelry.
